First Day of School!

Ian had his first day of school today! School being a glorified daycare kind of thing, since it's not like he's doing differential calculus or studying European history. It's more along the lines of puzzles, feeding the guinea pigs and throwing sand and one another. He's going to the Unity School here in Eugene.

I was all set for one of those tearful goodbyes with him screaming my name as I walked away, but he disappeared as soon as we got to the play space at the back of the school and I never saw him again. He's such a little trooper.

So I've got an interesting schedule. Sarah's sister's two sons Zach and Spencer go to the same woman for daycare as Ian and Noah. Zach is 4, so he's in preschool, too. His preschool is right next door to Vicki's, where they go for daycare. Literally right next door. I went to Zach's school orientation with Bobbi and peeked out the back fire door of his classroom and I could see Vicki's front door. I could have hit it with a rock. Hell, I probably could have hit it with Zach.

Anyway, despite being so close, Vicki has other kids so she can't walk Zach over to school or pick him up, and the people at the school can't either apparently. It's not really feasible for Bobbi to leave work, drive halfway across town to get him to and from school, so I offered to do it.

So here's my schedule... On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I drop Ian off at school at 8:30 am, then drive over to Vicki's. I exchange Noah for Zach, then walk Zach next door to school by 9. Then I'm free! For like two hours. I need to be back to Zach's school by 11:30 to get him, then I walk him back to Vicki's. I get Noah, then drive to Ian's school and get him at 12. Woot! Morning over. I need to get in some sort of routine where I work out in this lull, since it's too small to do all that much.

The only change is on Mondays, where instead of picking up Noah after I drop off Zach I leave him there, get Ian from school and bring him back to Vicki's. That way Ian still gets to see his cousins once a week. Also, Daddy gets another several hour chunk of kid free sanity. It's great!

I think. I've only done it once. Ask me again how I'm feeling in a month.
